AdventureQuest RPG players are one step closer to playing the long-awaited worldwide online game, because of an alpha test AQWorlds MMORPG (Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Game).
As final alpha testing wraps up Monday July 21, 2008, the Artix Entertainment prepares for the next phase of testing. According to Artix, “Guardians, Star Captains and DragonLords can play in this alpha test. Shortly after, the official Beta of AQWorlds will come online with many new and exciting features!”
AdventureQuest is a free online RPG. For a fee, players can upgrade to Guardian status, giving one greater access and power.
AdventureQuest (also spelled Adventure Quest) is designed for single players who battle against various sinister beings and nasty creatures in The Land of Lore.
AQWorlds, also set in The Land of Lore, is being designed as an MMORPG. Similar in nature (but not in style) to the Internet game Runescape, AQWorlds will be a live-action game where players from all over the world can play simultaneously.
This MMO is an exciting breakthrough for Artix Entertainment. While their other games (AQ, DragonFable, and MechQuest) are entertaining, AQWorlds takes the company to a new level.
A spokesperson for Artix, when asked about AQWorlds, responded: “What I think is going to be awesome is that it is our first MMO (massively multiplayer game). All the rest of our games are massively single player games, where players can't interact with each other directly. They can all influence the worlds together though, through participating in our wars. With AQWorlds, they'll be able to interact with each other in game. The art style in AQWorlds, while still similar to our art styles in the other games, somehow feels more dynamic and like you're starring in your own cartoon, which is really cool.”
In an interview with a 13 year-old Guardian player (July 21, 2008) lucky enough to be in on this final Alpha test, the main reaction to the new game was “Wow!” During intense battles with creepy skeletons, orcs, rats, and other bizarre foes, he was overheard to blurt such things as “Wahoo! Oh, sweet! Oh yeah” and other terms of excitement.
Between battles, when asked what he liked best about the newly created game, the young teen answered, “This game makes you feel like you could do just about anything. The graphics are very cool and the action is non-stop.” In reaction to the new feature of being able to “talk” and battle with other real people, he said, “I think it’s awesome. You can talk to other players and get advice. You can gang up on evil CPUs [computer-made game creatures] with other characters so you can eliminate them faster without getting totally owned [a.k.a. beaten].”
The new AQWorlds game to be available to the general public in the future, at an undisclosed date. Per Artix Krieger (the name used by the creator of the game), "We do not have official pricing for the MMO yet... the bandwidth looks pretty expensive... but fourtunately for you we are very bad at math!"
[Writers note: This is an edit to the original article. Information directly quoted per AQWorlds Forum 7/23/2008]
AQWorlds looks like it is going to be an outstanding game. The graphics and art style of AQWorlds are distinctive, colorful and detailed. The new computer characters and quests are unique and challenging. The transition of AdventureQuest to a more live-action game with real people is an exciting development. There is little doubt that AQWorlds will be a big hit in the online world.
