Diablo II and the Barbarian

Brutish Force Character

A look at the character of the Barbarian, the pure warrior class in Diablo II.

Diablo II, the fantasy RPG game that is from Blizzard Entertainment, came out in 2000. Blizzard is the company behind such blockbuster games as World of Warcraft, Starcraft, The Warcraft series, and the Diablo series. Diablo II is for single player and multiplayer action.

There are free access servers to play online with Diablo II from Blizzard, called Battle.net. All of the Diablo series of games are hosted on the Battle.net servers. This makes for many happy fans considering that the wildly popular World of Warcraft still charges $15 a month to play (and is paid monthly by over 11 million paying subscribers).

The free gaming platform contributes to the huge draw of Diablo over many online RPG games. Currently Blizzard has announced, in June of 2008, for Diablo III to be released “sometime in the near future”.

The Barbarian

The character class of the Barbarian is voiced by David Thomas and is represented by a beefy male. This is the melee fighter of the game and the only one that is going to be able to dual wield in the game. There are war cries to help out in a party setting, plus combat skills to help in hand to hand combat. This is the character that will be best to use heavy weapons like the axes.

Barbarian class of fighting characters was begun as an idea for the Hellfire expansion to the original Diablo game but was never brought to fruition. It was fully implemented in the Diablo 2 game. The back story to the Barbarian is that they come from the far reaches of the Mount Arreat northern steppes. There are three different skill “trees” for the Barbarian. These three trees are War Cries, Combat Masteries, and Combat Skills.

War Cries Skills

These include Howl, Find Potion, Taunt, Shout, Find Item, Battlecry, Battle Orders, Grim Ward, Battle Command, and Warcry.

Combat Masteries Skills

These include Sword mastery, Axe Mastery, Mace Mastery, Pole Arm Mastery, Throwing Mastery, Spear Mastery, increased stamina, Iron skill, Increased speed, and Natural Resistance.

Combat Skills

These include Bash, Leap, Stun, Double Swing, Double Throw, Leap Attack, Frenzy, Concentrate, Whirlwind, and Berserk.

As you can see in the Combat Masteries section that the Barbarian is customizable to take on most any melee weapon, and will be able to excel in whichever weapon the gamer wants to concentrate on. The more points put into that skill the better the character will be with that weapon. This makes the gamer a better fighter in your chosen weapon.
