Diablo II and The Paladin

Holy Warrior in RPG setting

The character of the Paladin is indeed a holy warrior in the RPG classic Diablo II.

With the June 2008 announcement that Blizzard will be releasing Diablo III, many are rediscovering the Diablo II franchise. It is a fantasy RPG game that came out in 2000 with one expansion (Lords of Destruction) in 2001. Blizzard has released many of these blockbuster gaming hits, including World of Warcraft, the Starcraft series, and the Warcraft series.

Diablo II is a single player and a multiplayer game. The online multiplayer option is played on the Battle.net website and is free to all owners of the game without any additional fee. All of the Diablo games can be played on the Battle.net servers for free as opposed to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft that currently charges $15 a month to its 11 million subscribers. This free online game play is another big draw to the franchise, along with the quickness of finding a game with little to no wait times.

The Paladin

The Paladin is the holy warrior of the character classes and is symbolized by a male avatar. This character is voiced by Larry B Scott. Paladins are good with swords and deal many holy spells with auras and health recovery. They have the ability to heal themselves and others quite easily, a very handy battle aspect. They are from the Church of Zakarum, and fight for light and good. There skill sets are in three trees as well. These trees are combat skills, defensive auras, and offensive auras.

Combat Skills

These skills include Sacrifice, Smite, Zeal, Charge, Holy Bolt, Vengeance, Blessed Hammer, Conversion, Holy Shield, and Fist of the Heaven.

Defensive Aura Skills

These skills include Prayer, Resist, Defiance, Resist Cold, Cleansing, Resist Lightning, Vigor, Meditation, Redemption, and Salvation.

Offensive Aura Skills

These skills include Might, Holy Fire, Thorns, Blessed Aim, Concentration, Holy Freeze, Holy Shock, Sanctuary, Fanaticism, and Conviction.

These skills as you can see are good for attack and defense, as well as healing items. This can help the player focus on what is giving them trouble with the character. If there is someone that needs more of a boost to their offensive its there, or if they need a defense boost it is also there ready to have points put into it. This level of customization for the Paladin can make it more holy or more warrior like, depending on the style of game play that the character tends to use. Paladins tend to lean more toward the mace as a weapon, but this is just the “typical” for the character and not the rule.
