Diablo: The Warrior Guide

Explanation of the Playing Class

Dec 15, 2008 Tina Samuels

A look at the warrior in Diablo, the original game in the Diablo series, and it's playing style.

Diablo was the first in the Diablo series, released back in January of 1997. It was where players dove beneath the town of Tristam to battle sixteen dungeons underground, until meeting the end boss of Diablo and his minions.

There was an expansion in 1997 called Hellfire, but wasn’t created by Blizzard (the masterminds behind the Diablo series). After that, Diablo 2 was released in 2000, along with the Lord of Destruction expansion for the Diablo 2 game. In June of 2008, Diablo 3 was announced, with little more information given.

Overview of the Warrior

The Warrior is one of three playable characters that can be created upon start up with Diablo. Unlike other RPGs, skill points are able to be put into any part of the character. It is theoretically possible to have a melee fighting sorcerer or a spellcasting warrior.

The warrior is shown as a powerful character, with melee weaponry. They can be made into barbarians or paladins with little changes, just a matter of skills and point dispersement.

Attributes of the Warrior

All characters in Diablo will have the same attributes. It is up to the player to put points in as they are earned, depending on the spec of the build they are trying to create. Each of these has a base number, which is altered with points.

Everytime a character levels up there are 5 points that can be added in any arrangement to the following attributes of Vitality, Dexterity, Magic, and Strength.

The Diablo Warrior Attributes

  • Vitality – This is the life and health of the character. This determines the damage that will need to be taken for a “stun” affect to happen as well.
  • Dexterity – This is the item that will affect the chance of hitting in combat, the armor class of the character, and the chance of hitting a foe in combat. Swords and Bows in game will have a minimum dexterity that will need to be satisfied to wield them.
  • Magic – This is the mana (or energy) that the player has. It will affect the chance of a spell to strike and the spells will all suck from this pool. Spells, staves, and scrolls will have a minimum number that magic will need to be in order to use them in the game.
  • Strength – This is the damage that the character can take in melee combat or in other battles. It will affect the armor and the weaponry of the character, as they have minimum strength requirements usually.

Overview

The warrior is a good class for those that like to charge in and take control of a fight or battle. These are the tanks that go in wailing away, and leave a pool of bodies in their path.
