DragonFable is a free online role-playing game (RPG) that offers a DF DragonAmulet upgrade for a one-time fee. Is the Dragon Amulet worth the cost? Is it cool?

Editors Choice

The free online RPG (role-playing game) DragonFable is a fascinating game offering a constantly expanding storyline, weekly original content and a good dose of clever humor. The art style, sound effects, and characters are unique and entertaining. DragonFable is a captivating way for mortals who enjoy some fantasy and bloodless battle to spend time on the Internet.

Created by Artix Entertainment, DragonFable may be played extensively on one's web browser at no cost or the game can be upgraded by purchasing a DragonAmulet at any time. The Amulet lifetime membership sells for a one-time fee of $19.95, $24.95, $29.95, or $34.95 (depending on the package chosen) in U.S. dollars. DragonFable is entertaining in free-play mode, but is the Amulet upgrade worth the money?

Upgrading the DragonFable Role-Playing Game with a Dragon Amulet

Interested new or advanced players can upgrade their free account by purchasing a virtual Dragon Amulet. According to Artix Entertainment LLC, this powerful talisman will “unlock special areas, quests, powerful items and get access to an expanding number of exclusive areas…”

As the game grows, Artix Entertainment promises that more unique benefits of the amulet will be revealed. These include special quests, the ability to speak in the language of Dragons, and the possibility for players' character(s) to reach the level of "Dragon Lord."

A player gets the following benefits when purchasing the Amulet:

Interview with a DragonAmulet Holder

When interviewed (August 2, 2008), one DragonAmulet owner voiced positive remarks about the upgade:

"So far I would have met my doom many more times on quests if it were not for my Amulet," he said. "It has allowed me to increase my power by a hundredfold. As an Amulet holder my gaming experience in undeniably cooler than any other game I have played anywhere, on any system."

When asked why this was, he stated, "I think it is because there is no limit to how far you can go in this game. You can just keep going because the world keeps expanding."

Final Review Notes - Is it Worth the Money to Upgrade to an Amulet?

While the DragonAmulet offers more variety and advanced gaming, this RPG is also great to play free online (see the article A Review of DragonFable Free Online RPG).

There are a few frustrations in free mode, such as being unable to use certain weapons or go some places. If a player can live with those frustrations and prefers not to spend the money to upgrade, DF is still an enjoyable diversion.

Otherwise, the DragonAmulet upgrade one-time fee seems a reasonable price and a good value. And who doesn't want to talk to dragons???
