A look at the general runes that all players can use in the MMORPG game of Guild Wars.
Runes are upgrade components in Guild Wars that can go on armor. (the Rune of Holding can be applied to bags, but is the only rune that can do that). These runes can be salvaged from items or bought from a rune trader, or traded in game between characters. They are either profession specific or profession independent. All the runes in this article, the general runes, are profession independent which means that they are good for all characters to use. General Runes for all Classes that Add to Health/EnergyThese runes are not class specific and can be used with any of the characters in any of the Guild Wars campaigns.
All of these runes are good if a health or energy increase is needed and the character's resistant to disease and spells are already in top notch shape. If not, the other general runes are a better fit. General Runes for all Classes that Add to Resistances in GameThese are the runes that will not add to health or energy, instead they add to the ability to resist a spell or disease. They are very helpful in the game.
When it comes times to salvage an item to check for runes and insignias, there is a general ability to tell what may be salvaged by the color of the armor. Armor Color and Rune ChancesArmor that has a white name has no special items. Armor that has a blue name will contain minor items (a minor rune, insignia, or one of each of them). Armor that has a purple name will contain major items (a major rune, and perhaps an insignia). Armor that has a gold name will contain superior items (a superior rune, and perhaps an insignia). To rune farm, the best approach is to go through the areas of the map that will ensure that the player will obtain at least some blue and purple, if not a few gold, drops so that they can use your salvage kits on them to farm out the runes and insignias. These can be sold to other players (selling to the NPCs will net just fractions of what it is worth), traded for the items that are needed, or stored in a guild.
