Getting Started With WoW Roleplay - DraeneiFleshing Out Your RP Character In World of Warcraft
In World of Warcraft the draenei are a proud race which have found themselves in Azeroth as outcasts after fleeing their home world - an interesting basis for role play.
Like the orcs, the draenei are not natives of Azeroth. Having fled their original homeworld of the planet Argus, they found a home on the world of Draenor, which was inhabited by the orcs. With the destruction of their home they fled to Azeroth where they joined the Alliance. Draenei LanguageTheir primary language is Draenei, while they also understand the human language Common. Lore-wise, many high-ranking draenei who were in contact with orcs before their corruption also know Orcish, but within the game world characters are not allowed to communicate cross-faction and so this language is not known by draenei players. A few Draenei phrases and words have been translated by Blizzard, but they would be difficult for a role player to get into conversation, so role players may prefer to just choose the Draenei language option when they want to speak with other dreanei. Choosing A NameUnlike the other races in Azeroth, draenei tend not to have last names, but many have titles which go either before or after their names. Example of the titles used before names include:
And those used afterwards include:
The names themselves tend to use multiple vowels, especially 'a' and 'u', and often emply 'ae'. Male names include Maraad, Ahuurn, Galaen, Jadaar and Klatu, while examples of female names are Dornaa, Aalesia, Cendrii, Inaara and Jaela. Racial QuirksDraenei stand taller than many other races in Azeroth at more than seven feet tall for males – well over 2m – and only a few inches shorter for females. They have unusual facial structures, with tendrils hanging down and cranial ridges in a plate on the forehead for males and shaped into horns for females. These provide some options for role players to create more unusual physical features as a draenei may have a damaged tendril or an unusual tattoo on his cranial plate. Draenei also have a unique relationship with the naaru, a race of sapient energy beings which are enemies of the Burning Legion and helped the draenei to escape to Azeroth. Have Fun! No matter how well prepared a role player is, the very nature of the game means a player is likely to come across a situation that throws them and creates an unusual challenge for their character. However, by sticking to the simple role playing rules, such a situation can become an interesting and fun experience, and role players should always be willing to try to work their way out of such situations while staying in character so that all the players involved have the best possible experience.
