Final Fantasy XI (FFXI) is a very popular MMORPG played by people of all ages. One of the most challenging parts of this game for players is making sufficient gil (the currency in FFXI) to purchase the items and equipement they need to succeed in this game.
Endgame linkshells can be a source of fun and gil for Final Fantasy XI players. However, to join one you have to have a job near level 75 at least. This method for making gil is not for new players. Many endgame shells, particularly ones that share their gil with members, may require more than simply one level 75 job to join their shell. In fact, many of these shells may require that a player has several level 75 jobs and/or that the player’s gear is above average. Many endgame shells are simply closed to new applicants as well, although many of them will recruit occasionally.
A good place for a relatively new player to start and endgame is in a sky shell. To join a sky shell as a melee or tank job, you will generally need to be at least level 70 and as a mage 68. Level 75 is recommended because once you join an endgame shell you may not have much time to finish leveling.
These endgame shells are able to make their members gil because they defeat difficult mobs in the game such as land kings, sky gods, and sea gods. After a player has been in the shell for a certain period of time, the gil made from killing these very difficult mobs may be shared with the player. This of course depends on the shell, its rules, and how they disperse gil.
If you join an endgame shell that does not share gil with its members in any way, shape, or form (meaning they don't even buy things like abjurations for their members) you may wish to look into whether that shell is right for you.
Please keep in mind that although many people who play this game are great people with wonderful leadership skills, some of those who play are willing to use other players to gain gil and items for themselves. One way to protect yourself without losing a lot of time is to ask around. Most endgame shells will have a reputation on their server. If the shell is relatively new, it may not have a reputation as of yet. However, anyone that is able to lead an endgame shell should have a reputation (good or bad). If you're unable to find out any information about the endgame shell’s leader, that may be a bad sign. If you find that they have a bad reputation this may be a shell you wish to avoid
As they can see, there are many ways you can make Gil in Final Fantasy XI. You simply must be careful the method you choose is right for you. You must also keep in mind that while there are many ways a player might try to get rich quick in Final Fantasy XI (for example buying Gil or jumping into BCNM fights with strangers), the consistent forms of income may in fact be better for players, especially newer players. Farming and fishing are perhaps the most consistent forms of income a player can have this game. While consistent may sound like boring to some players. It's a great, honest way to get started and stay ahead in Final Fantasy XI.
