RuneScape is a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) game that provides many elements of similar online MMOs but for free, for the most part. The free accounts have some limitations but offer a rich experience for the novice player. RuneScape provides a perfect game world for those new to this genre. As the player advances through the game, there is the possibility to pay for a membership, which opens even more adventures and treasures.
Starting the RuneScape Experience
The first screen a player will see is the account set up. New players will need to create a personal username and password. The user name will be how the game characters, and other human players, will refer to the player in the game world. There is a helpful screen to show if the selected name is available and other options if needed.
Creating a RuneScape Avatar
After the player has created a user name it is time to create an avatar. This is one of several game terms used throughout the game. Avatar is the game representation of the player. The player can decide whether to be male or female, then select the different attributes including skin color and clothing style.
Beginning RuneScape Gameplay
The game begins by placing in the action from a protected location. The first few minutes of the game the player will complete a short tutorial on the standard functions available in the game world. The tutorial offers a short mission while assisting the new player in learning how to maneuver through the environment and how to interact with items along the way.
Adventuring in RuneScape
After the tutorial the world is open for the player to explore. There is an in game guide that can be used at any point for tips on how to proceed. RuneScape also has a link to additional clues if needed. The next decide for the player is what they would like to do in this new game world.
There are several skills that can be increased in the game. Higher levels give the player greater access to more money and armor. The early levels only need a few points to increase so levels are earned quickly. There are also a higher percentage of materials available to increase early skills. With higher level, the materials become uncommon to rare adding to the difficulty of the game.
For the new gamer to MMOs or those looking for a free experience, RuneScape is a great game. The missions offered can be completed solo or in a group to add to the enjoyment. The goals are usually brief so that the game can be enjoyed in small sections without needing to commit a large portion of personal time in order to finish. RuneScape provides an online experience that is enjoyable for both kids and adults looking for a good MMO.
