A quick rundown of some of the new features and quests recently added to Blizzard's hit MMORPG, World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft is a game that continues to evolve. Game updates, or "patches" are not uncommon in other games, often fixing bugs and compatability issues, but what Blizzard offers its customers for free often rivals the expansions other companies charge thirty dollars or more for. The latest, "Fury of the Sunwell" continues this tradition and expands upon World of Warcraft's ever growing list of features.

New Features

A new zone, the Isle of Quel'Danas, a new instance, a new 25 man raiding area, new quests, new mounts, new reputation vendors, new items. Sounds like an expansion doesn't it? Well it's just the latest in a long line of free to download patches from Blizzard: "Fury of the Sunwell", aka patch 2.4. Things sure have changed in Outland since the first days of the Burning Crusade. Daily quests, Netherdrakes, and more have steadily been added, increasing the scope of what already is an impressive and large game.

Daily Quests

The new daily quests added in patch 2.4 add to the variety of things to do in the game and even break up some of the old questing cliches a bit. For example one quest has you killing fire elementals in the vicinity of a flare that follows you around, as you kill the elementals the flare charges itself up until it's big enough to destroy a portal which demons are using the enter Outland. What's interesting is that you don't have to be the one who killed the elemental, another player, Horde or Alliance can deal the killing blow and you still get credit. This often leads to a pack of Alliance and Horde, normally enemies, running around helping each other kill enemies to get their quests done faster.

PvP

Of course, it's not all cooperation, especially on PvP servers. It's not uncommon to see large groups of Horde or Alliance banding together in the new zones to cause players of the opposing faction as much grief as possible, but that's how WOW has always been. There are even new quests for the world PvP objectives to capture the town of Halaa and spirit towers in Terrokar Forest.

Unlocking Sunwell Plateau

Another interesting feature in regards to the new dailys is that they help unlock several of the new features added in the patch. For example, one quest has you seeking out the power source for a new portal which serves as a shortcut between the Outland hub city of Shattrath and the headquarters of the new faction "the Shattered Sun Offensive". As servers complete the new daily quests, they will be awarded percentages based on how many players are completing them. As these percentages are completed, a new badge of justice vendor will be unlocked with new loot, new quests become available and eventually players will have the ability to challenge the games hardest 25 man raid instance, Sunwell Plateau.

As just the latest and certainly not last in a long line of patches, 2.4 serves to justify over 10 million different players' monthly subscriptions to a game that is constantly adding new content for its players to explore.
